Newsletter/Nuusbrief June 2020
Being in lockdown has its advantages – if one can only put one’s mind over the harsh realities of the COVIC-19 pandemic.
Ten spyte van die wrede werklikhede van die grendeltyd is daar tog rede tot dankbaarheid.

Covid-19 Nutrition Support Update
I would like to thank those members who so generously donated towards supplying food stuffs for residents who were adversely financially affected by Covid-19 and the subsequent "lock down". This was greatly appreciated by the recipients.
We have now reached the stage with many returning to work and able to fend for themselves which in turn means that nutrition assistance has only become necessary in a few cases. Taking this into account the BBRA is closing down their involvement and is handing over the few cases left to a local charitable organisation, Hangklip Community Care Centre, HCCC.
This independent organisation has been operational in the Hangklip area since 2014 and supplies subsidised meals, free food parcels to the needy, runs a chronic medication clinic and various social and recreational facilities. HCCC is a registered NPO with registration number 102-000-NPO and is also registered with SARS for the issue of form 18a certificates allowing donors who wish to receive certificates for tax deduction purposes.
Should you wish any other information on HCCC their information can be accessed on this web site here.
In the light of the above we intend to donate the balance of donors funds held to HCCC to subsidise their charitable work in attending to the nutrition of the needy in our area provided our donors are in favour of this action.
Additionally should any member wish to donate towards the initiatives of HCCC they can deposit to the bank account as follows:
Hangklip Community Care Centre
FNB Hermanus
Cheque Account 62460003818
Reference Surname & Initials
Should you wish to discuss any of these arrangements you can contact me.
Thanks and Be Safe

Newsletter/Nuusbrief May 2020
Dear member COVID 19, like the North West wind, is still creating havoc. Thankfully we can soon toast the advent of level 3 of Lockdown. Isn’t it strange that we are so thankful for small mercies while still being largely restricted?
Teen hierdie tyd kan ons al amper van COVID-20 praat – of hoe?

Covid-19 - Nutrition Support - Needy of Betty's Bay
As you are all aware the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted on many in our community who have through no fault of their own been placed in an unenviable position in trying to provide for themselves and their families with little or no income.
Up to now we have received some generous donations from members of the BBRA which has allowed us to alleviate the position in which the needy find themselves.
We have used these funds in the following manner:
- We have identified members of the community in Betty's Bay who are in need of assistance and provide them with food parcels. At the moment 25 families are beneficiaries but as you will appreciate this number is growing.
- A food kitchen has been set up in Mooiuitsig to provide nourishment to the needy. This kitchen obtains basic supplies from the Overstrand Municipality and a mid day meal is supplied with porridge at breakfast time. We have found that these basic ingredients need to be supplemented and we therefore supply some additional ingredients for this purpose.
We have calculated that our weekly needs to carry on this program amounts to R4,200-00 and of course are not aware of how long this assistance will be required.
In the light of the above we would appreciate any donation you feel you would like to make towards this program.
Deposits can be made to the following account:
Betty's Bay Ratepayers Association
ABSA Hermanus
Cheque Account 4066616439
Ref. Surname & Covid-19
The co-ordination of this relief effort is done by Wayne Jackson a retired Navy Chef, and the current head of the Neighbourhood Watch in Betty's Bay.
Thanking you in anticipation,
Be Safe,
Adrian de Kock Secretary/Treasurer BBRA
