Restriction of Public Access to Stony Point Parking and Surrounds
The Bettys Bay Ratepayers Association currently has a membership of 414 and as such represents a sizable portion of the property owners and residents of our village.
It has come to our attention that it is the intention to close the access gates to the parking area at 17H00 daily and several of our members are unhappy with this arrangement.
The reasons for this are as follows:
- Our members, particularly those residing in the area, enjoy taking a walk in the late afternoon and early evening in the vicinity and would be prevented from doing so by the closure of the gates or would be forced to take a long detour to access the area via the foot path along the rocks. They would then of course be forced to retrace their steps along the same route.
- Residents and visitors taking the foot path from the Kleinmond side would also have to retrace their steps instead of continuing their constitutional along a different route.
- The closure of the gates would not prevent access to the area by undesirables as anyone could enter via the foot path along the rocks.
The solution would appear to be to install a pedestrian gate in the fence with a spring loaded mechanism. This gate could be installed in the outside fence in line with the Boat Club’s boat access to the slipway.
We await your response to this suggestion which would alleviate the problem and result in a win-win situation for all parties.
