Dear member. This letter is shorter than usual but it does contain some important news./Beste lid. Hierdie nuusbrief is korter as gewoonlik, maar bevat tog belangrike nuus.
LIAISON WITH MUNICIPALITY
The envisaged meeting with the Municipal Manager and his management team took place on 12 February. A wide range of matters that were neglected or ignored were thoroughly discussed. These discussions were extremely constructive and have already led to a much improved response. The BBRA appreciates the objective and comprehensive manner with which each agenda item was dealt with and also for the promise of improved liaison.
One of the spin-offs was that the Municipality undertook to regularly provide information on law enforcement activities in Betty’s Bay relating to road blocks and traffic offences including speeding and other fines issued. We will report on these statistics in our next newsletter.
The BBRA also committed itself to assist the Municipality wherever possible to ensure improved service delivery to all ratepayers. As an example the BBRA commissioned a study on vacuum tankers which proved that minimal time is “saved” by exceeding 80 km/h whilst the collision impact drastically increases. Hopefully this will lead to more responsible driving habits on the R44.
BEACH MATTERS
The removal of kelp on the beaches is done in terms of a municipal contract. There is concern over the fact that this is apparently also done on our beaches as it may affect the bird-life. This matter as well as the boardwalk at Dawidskraal is being taken up with the municipality.
STREET NUMBERS
An urgent request is again made that, in addition to erf numbers, street numbers be prominently displayed.
MUNICIPAL SERVICE COMPLAINTS
Minor complaints, such as the odd pothole, broken/overgrown street name signs, overgrown sidewalks and worn speed humps can brought to the attention of Rob Boyd at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or Werner Zybrands at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. who will follow this up.
CONSERVANCY
The revival of the Betty’s Bay conservancy is taking place under the guidance of Carol Clark. Contact het at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. should you wish to assist her.
BABOON LIAISON GROUP
At its last meeting this group noted the decision that the Municipality and Human Wildlife Solutions will
-
Do a veld/food survey of the baboon range
-
Collar a baboon in the Hangklip and Betty’s Bay troops using a GPS/satellite radio collar.
Until this research information is at hand there is little that can be done regarding a monitoring plan.
The next meeting has been scheduled for 4 March.
FIRE MATTERS
At the time of writing a massive fire was raging in Franschhoek/Stellenbosch and most available Western Cape resources were deployed to that area. Should a fire break out at the same time in our area it would mean that limited external resources will be available.
The BBRA is satisfied that the Fire Department has done adequate inspections of overgrown vacant properties and that the requests/instructions to reduce the vegetation fire load are being issued. Please comply therewith if your property is involved.
Home owners are again urgently requested to improve their own properties by reducing the fire load, creating defendable spaces and taking various other precautionary measures such as the cleaning of gutters and removing flammable objects and by developing their own evacuation plans.
A reputable fire extinguisher company will soon visit Betty’s Bay to service and supply fire extinguishers. Fire beaters will also be on sale. The date and venue will be made known on all social media platforms.
Phone 028 312 2400 for fires and emergencies.
CLARENCE DRIVE (R44) AND OTHER ROADS
Various matters relating to the R44 have been discussed or followed up. This includes road improvements, speed control and street name signs.
The maintenance of gravel roads is done in accordance with a programme but the execution thereof was unfortunately delayed due to a legal hitch relating to the tender for the supply of gravel.

KLAGTES OOR MUNISIPALE DIENSTE
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. of Richard Starke by This email address is being protected from spambots. BEWARINGSGEBIED
Belangstellendes kan Carol Clark by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. kontak.
BOBBEJAAN SKAKELGROEP
Voldoen asb daaraan indien dit jou eiendom is.

Verskeie aspekte rakende die R44 is bespreek of opgevolg.
