FEBRUARY 2016 NEWS LETTER

This month something very wonderful happened. One of our regular donors and a friend of the ‘Penguin Kidz / Pikkewyntjies Pre-Primary put out a challenge to raise funds for the school. His words: “Thus, I am writing to challenge Rooiels, Pringle and Betty’s Bay to join me in raising money for Pikkewyntjies. My family will create an ‘incentive fund’ of R25,000, and this will be used to match any contribution from another family made in February 2016. Join us in showing our appreciation to Zaan and her team for what they do, and starting a legacy project to protect these children and the community in the long term.”

Warm-hearted’ residents came to the party and the goal was achieved.

We were R1,730.00 short of the R25,000.00 , and then another regular donor offered to make up the difference, although they had already made a contribution.

A heartfelt ‘thank you’ to our sponsor (who would like to remain anonymous) for taking the initiative to start this challenge. What a turn out! Over the next few months we do not have to stress about where the next cent will come from. We can spend all our energy and time educating the children. To all the donors who contributed, you all played a very important part in making the event a success. Once again, thank you very much.

Donation To Pikkewyntjies by SPAR

Charlene Mekel from SPAR - The Human Resource Development Administrator, contacted me on the 15 th February and announced that they would like to make a donation to the school. I was over-whelmed, as we had not approached SPAR. Sedrick Taljaard, the husband of our Chairperson Sandra Taljaard, very kindly made the trip to Phillipi to collect the donated goods. Lots and lots of sugar, porridge, cooking oil, cold-drinks, baked bean & coffee were donated. Thank you very much SPAR, we appreciate this contribution very much! SPAR you are AWESOME. Also, thank you Sedrick for spending your precious time & using your own transport to collect the goods from SPAR – Phillipi, despite your busy daily schedule.

 A Note From Your Editor

The school operates from 7 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. every day, including during school holidays. It closes for 3 weeks over Christmas. The children are fed at the school.

Most children come from very poor homes and their parents cannot afford to pay shcool fees. The allocation per child from the state is pitifully inadequate and not all children are catered for by the state.

The school has a monthly deficit of R600 per child and there are 30 children at the school. PLEASE SET ASIDE A SMALL SUM EACH MONTH FOR THIS VERY GOOD CAUSE. REGULAR, DEPENDABLE DONATIONS MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

PLEASE CONTACT ZAAN CILLIERS. Her details are at the top of this article.
