Afrikaans Nuusbrief

Daar was insidente waar mense se tuinmeubels, tuinslange en ander buitemuurse toerusting gesteel is.

Beste groete.

English newsletter

Greetings to all residents,

This newsletter for June is written in memory of Louise Fowler, a seven year old, who tragically got swept from her mother’s grasp into the stormy seas, late afternoon of Friday 30th June.

This incident triggered a massive search for her but despite the best efforts of all concerned the operation was called off after 5 days of intense land, sea and air searches.

The Bettys Bay Neighbourhood Watch would like to acknowledge and thank everyone for their efforts especially all the volunteers who freely gave of their time and drones to assist with the operation. The Ward Counsellors are also thanked for their support. There were those who were directly involved with the search and there were those who were providing support to and co-ordinating the volunteers. We would also like to thank the following organizations and companies for assisting with the search:

  • Cape Nature
  • Police Diving Unit
  • Kleinmond SAPS
  • SAPS Task Team
  • Overstrand Fire and Rescue Services
  • Drone Base – Hermanus
  • Cam Live Vision – Overberg Branch
  • National Sea Rescue Institute
  • Caltex Garage –Bettys Bay
  • Jacks Café
  • Werners Butchery
  • Kleinmond Spar

As with such a coordinated effort from many organizations there are lessons that can be learnt and a comprehensive debriefing will be arranged at which we will discuss ways of improving the service we can provide to the community in the event of any emergency situation.

We will also discuss issues at the Joint Operational Meeting at which the SAPS, Law Enforcement, Cape Nature, DAFF and other Neighbourhood Watches are represented.

The statistics for June show that the number of incidents has reduced to 18 compared to the previous month’s 26. There has been a clear shift in the area of activity with Sunny Seas, Jocks Bay and Bass/Dawidskraal accounting for 66% of the incidents. During the month our operations have been focused on these areas.

There have been some incidents during June in which we responded to information posted on our whattsapp groups but eventually found that the information was at least an hour old and that we were wasting our time. Residents are requested to attempt to provide info as quickly as possible in order for us to react effectively. The quicker we get the info the better are our chances of finding the bad guys.

There have also been incidents where garden furniture, hosepipes and other outdoor equipment have been stolen. Residents are urged to lock away such equipment when houses are unoccupied for long periods.

The camera trial was completed during the month and we are currently working on a funding model. We will be providing feedback to residents as soon as we have finalized the work.

We would appreciate any donations our bank details are at the top of the page.

Regards.
