BBRA NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2021
Dear member
COVID VACCINATIONS
The vaccination centre at Crassula Hall will operate again on:
16 and 30 September.
Please support this initiative of the Hangklip Community Care Centre and the BBRA.
AGM AND VACANCIES
The AGM has been scheduled for 11 December 2021. Some of the present committee members have indicated that they are no longer available for re-election. Civic minded members who wish to be elected to the committee are invited to contact our secretary, Adrian de Kock (contact particulars below) and they will be invited to attend a meeting as observers to determine for themselves how the committee functions.
Two members joined our meeting on 31August as observers and found it most enlightening. Why not do the same?
BEACHES
A Spring beach clean-up is being planned focussing on the Sea Farm coastline which is particularly bad due to all the poaching activities. Property owners will collect and dispose of the full bags.
FIRE MATTERS
The proposed establishment of a sub-fire station on Clarence Drive near the Botanic Garden is entering the next phase where the proposed use of the land will be advertised for public comment.
Phone 028 312 2400 for fires and emergencies
ESKOM FAULTS – NEW SUPPORT SYSTEM.
Eskom has introduced a new chatbot named Alfred in the MyEskom customer app that allows users to report electricity supply issues. Chatbots are computer programs that automatically answer basic user questions.
You can also access your chatbot online at the following website: https://alfred.eskom.co.za/chatroom
Note: In order for you to register and use this App your cell phone number must be up to date on Eskom Systems.
For any technical problems with regards to the MyEskom Customer Mobile Application, please forward all E-mails to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Tips:
-
When many affected customers report the problem, it will naturally receive a higher priority. (Eskom relies on the report/reference of just one complainant, it may seem that the fault is a single customer issue).
-
Eskom clients are therefore encouraged to use the system to report faults and to ask for a reference number.
-
Always include a valid account number, erf/stand number or meter number for effective service delivery.

ROAD MAINTENANCE
A high level meeting with the Director Community Services, the Area Manager, a municipal engineer and BBRA representatives took place on 1 September.
It was a very fruitful meeting and short, medium and long term strategies are being developed. The repair of potholes in a structured manner has already commenced. It can only be completed at the end of the water upgrade project as various cross-cuts are still being made for the individual connections to the new water main line.
The upgrading of various gravel roads has yielded excellent results in the Ixia Road area. This was one of the worst sections in Betty’s Bay and other roads in a bad shape will be part of the current project. Over the medium to long term more roads will be tarred or dust controlled. The other gravel roads are undergoing the annual maintenance.
An integral part of the roads programme is storm water management. The one cannot take place without the other and this adds to the cost of the road upgrade programme.
Technical service complaints were also discussed at this meeting and it is trusted that the process of resolving these complaints will be speeded up.
Technical service complaints can brought to the attention of Rob Boyd at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or Richard Starke at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. who will follow this up.
WATER
The upgrading of the main water network is a major project and is still proceeding well.
PROPERTY AND TOWN-PLANNING MATTERS
There was only one minor relaxation of a building line application which was supported.
The municipal court is still not being able to function properly and deal with building transgressions.
CONSERVANCY
The very well prepared and informative publication BBWILD is available at Coffee-on-Clarence and at Sitar.
The Betty’s Bay Conservancy (BBC) will be involved in tree planting for Arbour Month in September and in the upcoming Great Southern Bioblitz from 22 to 25 October.

COVIDNUUS
Skakel 028 312 2400 vir brande, vloede of mediese nood.
https://alfred.eskom.co.za/chatroom/
Tegniese probleme met hierdie stelsel kan per e-pos by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. gerapporteer word.
Wenke:
-
-
Vermeld jou rekening-, erf- of meternommer.

This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. of Richard Starke by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
WATER
BEWARINGSGEBIED
Die puik en insiggewende publikasie BBWild is nou by Coffee on Clarence en Sitar beskikbaar.
Die Bewaringsgebied se komitee sal by die aanplant van bome in September betrokke wees en ook by die sogenaamde Great Southern Bioblitz vanaf 22 tot 25 Oktober.
Persone wat in die herinstelling van Bettysbaai as bewaringsgebied belangstel, kan die Facebookblad besoek of by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. kontak maak.
