Dear member
The BBRA Community and Cultural Affairs portfolio, in collaboration with HCCC, is pleased to announce the 3rd presentation in a series on topics of widespread interest to our community.
“A Year on the SANAE Antarctic Base”
Talk by Dr Louis Wessels, Crassula Hall, Wednesday 20th October 2021, at 17:45 for 18:00
Our speaker, Dr Louis Wessels, is a semi-retired neurosurgeon who resides in Sunny Seas, Betty's Bay. Early in his medical career he had the very rare opportunity to join a South African National Antarctic Expedition (SANAE) and experience a year in the Antarctic as part of a team of scientists and support personnel. This year, 2021, happens to be the 50th anniversary of that 1971 expedition. It may seem an age ago, but so fascinating was the adventure that Louis recalls experiences in great detail and is able to share them with the help of slides taken at that time.
We will strictly observe Covid-19 protocols. In order to meet social distancing requirements in terms of seating arrangements, you are required to send an RSVP to George Green (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) at any time between now and Monday, 18 October.
COVID VACCINATIONS
Although the demand for vaccinations has dropped the vaccination centre at Crassula Hall will operate again on:
6 October, 3 November and 1 December – all being the first Wednesday of the month
Please support this initiative of the Hangklip Community Care Centre and the BBRA.
BEACHES AND AMENITIES
Instead of a beach clean-up a street clean up in the CBD area was held. Few volunteers pitched up but 28 bags collected- mostly near the transfer station.
Temporary repairs to Bass lake board walk were done. The Dawidskraal picnic area is being evaluated for fire risk reduction.
A stakeholder assessment survey on our penguins is being done by the University of Pretoria. Visit Africanpenguinhealth.co.za
The BBRA submitted a wish list of projects to be funded from the 2022/23 ward allocation and this included various projects relating to beaches and amenities such as board walks and footpaths.
FIRE MATTERS
The proposed establishment of a sub-fire station on Clarence Drive near the Botanic Garden is entering the next phase where the proposed use of the land will be advertised for public comment.
This project was also listed for the 2022/23 ward allocation.
Phone 028 312 2400 for fires and emergencies and PLEASE do not place messages on WhatsApp or other social media groups. This practice causes confusion, late or no responses and promotes false alarms.

ROAD MAINTENANCE
The improvements are very visible and a joy to use. And this is not the end – a full team starts early in October to tackle a number of roads in dire need of maintenance
Over the medium to long term more roads will be tarred or dust controlled. The other gravel roads are undergoing the annual maintenance.
Technical service complaints are slowly but surely being addressed and further technical service complaints can brought to the attention of Rob Boyd at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or Richard Starke at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. who will follow this up.
WATER AND SANITATION
The upgrading of the main water network is nearing completion and most houses have been connected in Betty’s Bay. The team is now working in Rooiels and Pringle Bay where after all finishes and final clean ups will be done before end of November.
Our portfolio holder, Rob Boyd, made valuable inputs to the EIA process for the upgrading of the Kleinmond waste water treatment works and the consultants were very appreciative thereof.
PROPERTY AND TOWN-PLANNING MATTERS
The municipal court has commenced its sittings and will also deal with building transgressions.
Although the proposed amended use of Glen Craig from a conference and accommodation centre to a special use to allow a dementia care centre fell outside our area of jurisdiction it was supported as the existing footprint of development would not be increased and there was a proven demand for such a facility in the Hangklip area.
Numerous slow progress and illegal occupancy notices were issued.

BESONDERE PRAATJIE
Ten einde aan Covid getalbeperkings te voldoen, is dit nodig dat jy voor 18 Oktober by George Green by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. bespreek.
COVIDNUUS
MISDAAD
Kontak Wayne Jackson by 082 928 1260 of by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. indien jy by die Buurtwag betrokke wil raak.
Stropery kan aan die SAPD in Kleinmond by 028 271 8200 of by Natuurbewaring by 082 453 0835 of by Seevisserye by 028 313 2703 gerapporteer word.
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. of Richard Starke by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
