Greetings to all residents, this is the first newsletter and our intention is to issue these on a regular basis. We have divided Bettys Bay into areas with a warden responsible for organising the residents into smaller groups who can report any suspicious behaviour and unsafe conditions.
The wardens are as follows:
- Sunny Seas - Johan de Koker
- Jocks Bay – Rudi Perold
- Bass/Dawidskraal - Rika v.d. Merwe
- Central – Joey Botes
- Stony Point – Uli Niemann
- Rondevlei – Hugo Truter
- Silversands – Vacant
An emergency cell phone number 072 015 5729, is manned 24/7 and should be used by residents for real concerns in the area and or threats to your person or property. This phone rotates between the wardens on a weekly basis.
Crime in the area has shown a marked increase during November, with 37 incidents reported as at the 18/11/2016 which means that this month will be double the monthly average. Historical trends from the police and security companies show that November is a bad month and the period immediately after New Year is another bad period. Criminals have predominately gained entry into properties by forcing sliding doors, windows and garage doors.
We have responded by conducting 11 operations in November to date throughout Bettys Bay mostly concentrating on Stony Point, Rondevlei and Central areas. During these operations many suspicious persons and vehicles were identified and information was passed on to the police which resulted in 2 arrests and 3 people taken in for questioning.
Estate agents and letting agents have been approached to ensure that visitors coming to Bettys Bay are made aware of the situation and are also given guidelines to prevent theft.
BBNW have offered Pringle Bay assistance in setting up their own neighbourhood watch and also by training their members during operations in Bettys Bay. This is a welcome development as collectively we can make a bigger impact on crime prevention in the greater area.
The response to the appeal for donations has been moderately successful with a total of R28 310 having been received. Individual e-mails have been sent to those who have made donations but we would like to further acknowledge their support. Our budget up to October 2017 is R183 500 and we would urge other residents to assist by making a donation.
