BETTYS BAY NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH- NEWS LETTER

Greetings to all residents, homeowners and visitors.

Since the previous news letter we have seen the marked increase in incidents during November and the indications for December shows that the trend is continuing as we experienced 11 incidents in the first week.

BETTYSBAAI BUURTWAG NUUSBRIEF – DESEMBER

 (English below.)

  • Diewe monitor wonings vir so lank as twee [2] weke voor ‘n inbraak.
Diefstal kom egter gereeld voor tot so vroeg as 04h00 soggens.

  • Rekeningnaam: Bettysbaai Belastingbetalers Vereniging.
  • Bank: ABSA Hermanus Tak
  • Tjekrekening Nommer: 4066616439
  • E-pos bewys van u betaling aan: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

With the increase in the number of visitors in the area we need to spread useful info that can prevent theft. The following info is particularly relevant:

  • 8 out of 10 residential robberies are committed with the help of information from servants, gardeners, former employees and contractors working in your home.
  • Robbers will monitor the home for as long as 2 weeks.
  • Robbers research armed response firms’ reaction times.
  • Most robberies occur between 19h00 and midnight as people are relaxed, busy cooking or watching TV, and the security systems and beams are not activated. Robberies do however continue until 04h00.
  • Robberies out of cars is on the increase, please do not leave valuables in your car.

The BBNW has been active through the period and our modus operandi has been expanded to include vehicle based observations and patrols as well as foot patrols and a combination of these. We will continue to modify our strategy so that we remain one step ahead of the villains. There will be extra reinforcements deployed in Bettys Bay and obviously we can’t divulge all the detail upfront but we will report back later.

Some feedback from our operational team regarding alarm systems is that in many cases time is wasted responding to alarms at houses because of difficulty identifying exactly which house is concerned especially in windy conditions. Residents are urged to consider installing a red strobe light at the highest point of the roof as this will greatly assist the team responding to alarm conditions.

The donations received since our appeal was launched is now standing at R49 510 against our target of R183 500 for the year ahead. We thank those who have made donations. Our bank details are provided below for the benefit of those who are yet to make a donation.

We have obtained quotes for night vision equipment and are exploring the possibility of obtaining this directly from overseas via a potential donor. We have purchased extra magnetic boards for vehicles at a cost of R 1 710.

Our bank details are:

  • Account Name -BettysBay Ratepayers Association.
  • Bank - ABSA Hermanus Branch
  • Cheque Account Number 4066616439
  • Please use your surname, NW and erf number as a reference.
  • E-mail proof of payment to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe festive season.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.
