This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Buurtwag Groete

The burglaries that took place during June show an increase over the previous months and in particular the Stony Point and Rondevlei areas suffering the most from criminal activity.

A concerning trend is that houses that have been broken into previously are targeted again by burglars and one jumps to the assumption that it is the same criminal or criminals. Flat screen T.V.’s are being stolen and residents are urged to either have their T.V.’s stored at neighbours or hidden in a secure place when you are away for extended periods.

Residents are again urged to close their curtains after dark to prevent people seeing the position of your appliances and also to prevent them observing your movements. When we are doing patrols it is alarming to see the number of houses that are “advertising” their movements and position of equipment.

During the past month we observed vehicles that were suspect because of erratic movements in Betty's Bay. We tailed these vehicles until they left our town and referred the matter to the police who informed us that the car registration number did not match the car and either the cars are stolen or false number plates are being used. We continue to be on the lookout for these vehicles so that the police can be alerted.

We urge residents to report all crime to the police, no matter how small or irrelevant the case may be, as having true crime statistics for our area will aid the SAPS in motivating for additional resources to be allocated.

We are pushing ahead with the camera project and are doing more research in the special ratings area concept as a means of funding this project. The work we do is aimed at making our town safer and in so doing prevent Betty's Bay getting a bad reputation which will eventually effect property valuation. Communication with the Overstrand Municipality (OM) is on-going and residents will be informed of developments. The O.M. has a budget for a camera installation in Betty's Bay and we will be making suggestions regarding the effective use of these funds.

I need to thank all of our people who worked during the past months in the operations we conducted. Those working during our operations are giving of their time and use their own vehicles with no compensation; your dedication is much appreciated. In addition all those who have made donations are thanked for their generosity.

Any persons willing to help us are asked to send their details including names, telephone numbers and address to our e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Donations towards funding the camera system and our operating costs will be greatly appreciated. Our banking details are always on the top of the category (here).

Residents should carefully consider the merits of a message on our whattsapp groups, especially in the middle of the night. Rather than wake up 250 people please consider phoning our 24/7 emergency phone 072 015 5729 if there is an emergency.

Wishing you all a safe month,
Regards.
